Why Tinted SPF should be your new BFF...

Well, for me and my clients anyway!
For me, having your skin look as flawless as possible without makeup is the ultimate flex, and it's a goal many of my clients look to achieve. If you are looking to settle the debate in your head about whether you should ditch the makeup and go for the tinted SPF, then here's my take on it:
What is Tinted SPF?
If you have ever heard of tinted moisturiser, it's exactly the same concept, however SPF based rather than purely just for hydration. And given that SPF is the final step of your skincare routine in the morning, it makes sense to have a tinted SPF rather than a tinted moisturiser, and then normal SPF over the top.
With broad-spectrum protection against UVA and UVB rays, tinted SPF helps prevent sun damage, which is crucial for maintaining healthy skin and preventing premature aging. Many formulations also contain skin-loving ingredients like antioxidants, which can further enhance your skin’s appearance. The added tint evens out skin tone without the feeling of 'heaviness' or 'cake-iness' that makeup can leave.
Why some people still may choose to go with makeup...
From foundations to BB creams and concealers, makeup can be tailored to suit various skin types and preferences, whilst also offering different variations of coverage on the skin - coverage being the main reason that my clients still reach for their makeup bag every morning.
Whilst some makeup products are made to include some sun protection, the evil of sun protection is usually not adequate enough for full sun protection of the skin (for example; BB cream with SPF 25). And if this isn't the issue, you generally need a grape-sized amount of SPF for good coverage, whereas people and clients alike, tend to only use a small amount of makeup as their base on the skin - meaning that this is not a large-enough volume to provide adequate sun protection.
So which one do you chose?
The choice between tinted SPF and makeup ultimately depends on the individual. If you are confident in your skin, you may find yourself reaching for your tinted SPF as enough coverage for your skin. However, my acne clients tend to still feel the need to use thicker coverage makeup (and I can totally empathise with this, being an acne sufferer myself). The decision may also depend on type of day planned, event or casual plans.
What would Georgia recommend?
And so here's my opinion...
Go for the tinted SPF if you can, and use small amounts of concealer over the areas of skin that really bother you. If you are confident enough, go without this step. And if you are still insistent on using makeup, PLEASE wear an SPF 30-50 underneath, regardless of whether it has SPF in the makeup, or not.
In conclusion, both tinted SPF and traditional makeup have their unique advantages. Whether you opt for one or the other, or even combine the two, the key is to prioritise sun protection to maintain healthy skin. So, embrace your skin and find the perfect balance that makes you feel confident and protected!
Lots of love,
